Tottenham lost their first Europa Conference League group game last night in a 1-0 defeat to Vitesse and a lack of leadership was made clear. Tottenham’s new XI that were revealed to start on Thursday looked like they could get three points against their opponents but on the night their performance made it clear that they were a team who don’t often play together.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “There was a period in the second half when we lost a little bit of control but in terms of lack of focus in the moment of the goal, details that we should improve like we always do. The Conference League is always a chance to have minutes on the players, players who work hard and deserve. This is what it’s all about, so let’s progress.”
The Spurs boss made a wise decision to give different players game time in Arnhem because they haven’t been getting the minutes in the Premier League and with the fixtures coming thick and fast, there isn’t always much recovery time for the regular XI.
