Everton winger Andros Townsend has shared the ‘mind games’ Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul played on him before he took his penalty kick during their match on Saturday.
Andros Townsend said: “It’s just mind games. He’s been there and done it…I played with him at Newcastle, so he knows where I like to put my penalties. But I just remained focused, picked my spot and thankfully I managed to get the better of him on this occasion.”
Despite the ‘mind games’, Townsend produced a cool finish from 12 yards to put Everton in front and they held on to claim all three points at Goodison Park. The win saw the Toffees move up to fifth in the table with 13 points from their six games. Townsend has been in strong form for the club following his summer move, and he also said he’s been ‘loving it’ at Everton so far.
Andros Townsend said: “You can see I’m loving it here. I’m loving fighting it out at the right end of the table, scoring goals, getting assists. I just need to keep working hard and long may this continue. It was a very important win after the week we’ve had. Norwich have probably been unfortunate with the start to the season they’ve had and the teams they’ve had to face. We knew it was going to be difficult and that we’d have to remain patient. And when you’ve got the injuries we have, three points is all that matters.”
