Alex Telles is set to give Manchester United a fitness boost before the game against Aston Villa on Saturday. Brazilian left-back Telles hasn’t featured for United this season after suffering an ankle injury in a pre-season fixture with Derby County in July. After two months on the side-lines he could return to action in United’s Carabao Cup tie with West Ham United on Wednesday.
Alex Telles said: “I feel good. Things happen in football. I wasn’t very happy about that (the injury) but I took advantage of the situation by working harder. I feel better than before, I feel better prepared and stronger, physically and mentally. I’m much better and I’m thrilled to be back. Whenever I get the chance to play, I’ll give everything for Manchester United to win the lot. Preparations will be the same (for United’s game against West Ham). It’s in front of our home fans at Old Trafford but I think the game will be very tough. It’ll be a difficult match but we’re ready – after the game at West Ham, I feel we’re better prepared. And, of course, we want to win and play as well as we can to get through.”
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 10 changes to his starting XI for a Carabao Cup tie with Luton Town at this stage last season and the chances of him doing something similar tomorrow are high. Telles made 23 appearances in his first season with United after joining from Porto last year and sits behind Luke Shaw in Solskjaer’s pecking order. If Telles comes through the game against West Ham unscathed he will be in contention for a place in the squad against Dean Smith’s Villans on Saturday.
