Dean Smith thought that the scoreline flattered his Aston Villa side as they beat Everton 3-0 on Saturday evening.
Dean Smith said: “I thought it was a very unjust scoreline [vs Chelsea] and I thought today flattered us a little bit. I don’t think it was a 3-0, but after we got the first goal it was all guns blazing and we got two other good goals as well. We probably had an edgy spell for five minutes just before we scored that first goal as well.”
Villa might have lost Jack Grealish for £100million over the summer, but Smith believes that his squad is more equipped to compete with the Premier League’s top sides after replacing Grealish’s individual influence with the likes of Bailey, Ings and Emiliano Buendia.
Dean Smith added: “We want to be challenging the likes of Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United – you have to have a good squad to do that and a good bench.”
