When Wilfried Zaha is in the mood, there are very few full-backs in world football that can deal with his pace, trickery and hell-bent determination to force a chance on goal. That’s why his performance on Saturday in Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win over Spurs at Selhurst Park was such a joy to watch, as Zaha gave Tottenham debutant Emerson Royal a torrid time on the left wing all afternoon. After the game, Patrick Vieira challenged Zaha to keep his performance levels up and praised him for both sides of his game.
Patrick Viera said: “Wilfried is a technical leader in the team. When he gets the ball at his feet he is direct [and] he is good on the one v one. I would like him to score more goals because I think he has the quality and the talent to do it. But today it was as well about him working out of possession. Today he made the effort to come and help Tyrick.”
Now that he has his first goal of the season in the bag, Zaha will be hoping to continue his good form with performances against Liverpool (Sep 18) and Brighton (Sep 27). He also now has 48 Premier League goals to his name, just how much would Palace fans love it if he brings up his half-century over the next two fixtures?
