Chelsea’s trip to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon summed up both side’s current trajectory under their respective managers. The game finished 2-0 to the Blues, a result that condemned Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side to their second loss of the season, following their defeat to Brentford last Friday which finished with the same scoreline. Comparitvely, Thomas Tuchel’s side have won both of their games without conceding a goal, dominating the Gunners after defeating Crystal Palace 3-0 last weekend. When Lukaku was asked to rate his first game back at the Blues,
Romelu Lukaku said: “Dominant, I would say. Dominant. Like I said I try to improve every time, I have a long way to go but today was good, it was good to win and to start well. I’m very happy with the way we played really well, we dominated, we could have scored more. Now we have to keep working, keep building, keep getting stronger because the Premier League is a very competitive league. You want to work hard for the team, you want to win, you want to score, you want to create chances. Something that I’ve learned that I work on really hard and I keep working on it.”
The 28-year-old nearly netted a second goal late in the second half only to be denied by the Gunners’ goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who produced a magnificent reflex save that Lukaku himself was shocked by.
Romelu Lukaku said: “No, but there are good goalkeepers in this league”, he added when asked if he could believe the German had managed to deny him a brace. That was a great save. I think the cross from Mason [Mount] was brilliant, the header was good. But the save was also really good.”
