Chelsea could potentially be in line for a £13million transfer windfall as left-back Emerson Palmieri has agreed an initial loan move to Ligue 1 side Lyon. Emerson, 27, has had his wish granted of finding more regular first-team football for the 2021/22 season as Thomas Tuchel’s reluctance to play the Italian has resulted in him leaving for France.
Emerson Palmieri said: “I want to play, I know I can be out on the pitch, I’ve proved that. So I’m going to do everything I can to be on the pitch. Of course, I still have two more years on my contract with Chelsea, which is a great club. I’ve already proved that I can play here, but at the same time I want to be on the pitch. I want to play, I want to feel important, like I already did. I want to have the same feeling I felt when I scored against Atletico Madrid, to have the same feeling when I won the Champions League.”
Emerson joins the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud and many others in being shown the exit door in this transfer window, as the German boss ruthlessly aims to trim his congested Chelsea squad ahead of a potential Premier League title challenge this season.
