Highly-rated Borussia Dortmund youngster Giovanni Reyna has paid tribute to Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho for the influence he has had on his young career so far.
Giovanni Reyna said: “I can’t thank [Jadon] enough for what he’s done for me since we’ve known each other. From the very first day he told me to get in touch with him any time if I ever had a problem. And in sporting terms he also helped me by telling me to believe in myself, to be confident and to show that, no matter how young I am. You can only be a good athlete if you believe in yourself. He set an example to me in that sense. I could orientate myself on him.”
Sancho, who could make his United debut in Saturday’s Premier League opener against Leeds at Old Trafford, has waxed lyrical about Reyna himself in the past. Speaking last year,
Jadon Sancho said: “I think Gio is a great player, I feel like he’s going to be one of the next best players here at Dortmund. “I’m just happy to see him play, and play with him every week, and I’m just excited for what happens next.”
Reyna, who is only 18-years-old, is tipped by many to become the next breakthrough star at the German giants and has already scooped the No.7 shirt following Sancho’s move to Old Trafford last month. The USA international has already racked up 65 first-team appearances for Dortmund, scoring eight goals and claiming nine assists in the process — highlighting just how valuable he is to the Bundesliga club. And while hhe has been privileged to play alongside such talented players during his career so far, the Durham-born winger has made a special case for praising Sancho, admitting that he cannot thank him enough for the impact he has had on him, as well as revealing that he could “orientate himself on him.”
