Despite being let go by West Ham in the January transfer window it is clear there are no hard feelings from Robert Snodgrass towards his former team or the manager David Moyes. Snodgrass did not feature often in Moyes’ team selection through a combination of injury last season and only being used as a squad player in the early part of this season. Yet the two Scots have a clear respect for one another. When Snodgrass departed the Hammers for West Bromwich Albion, he went with Moyes’ best wishes.
David Moyes said: “Snoddy’s been fantastic for the club, he is a great character, he’s great around the club. He is someone who is a good player, great in and around the dressing room and we all miss him a lot.”
Snodgrass spoke glowingly of the job Moyes has done at West Ham in turning them from relegation candidates to a top-six Premier League team.
Robert Snodgrass said: “David inherited a squad on the verge of relegation, but he has built them up and given everyone confidence. He also has a first-class backroom staff in place. They are all excellent in the roles David has given them, and the players respect all of them.”
A key part of Moyes’ accomplishments at West Ham has been his success in the transfer market, something Snodgrass pointed out.
Robert Snodgrass said: “On the recruitment front, he has signed very well. [Tomas] Soucek and [Vladimir] Coufal – add Jesse Lingard, Jarrod Bowen and Craig Dawson to the list. You then see the overall improvement in Declan Rice and Mick Antonio. Both have gone from strength to strength and I can see Declan being a major player for England this summer.”
There is one man that Snodgrass is particularly pleased to see as part of a thriving West Ham team, his former captain and good friend Mark Noble.
Robert Snodgrass said: “I’m most pleased for Mark Noble. The skipper is West Ham through and through, and loves the club. He was great for me and made my four years at the club very enjoyable. Mark is moving into the last year or two of his career, and he deserves to have a memorable season like this one.”
Snodgrass had a fantastic relationship with the Hammers supporters and the Scot is delighted they will be able to watch European football at the London Stadium.
Robert Snodgrass added: “The West Ham fans are also brilliant. They are so passionate about their club and they deserve to be watching European football next season.”
