Carlo Ancelotti has fully explained Richarlison’s free kick “misunderstanding” against Crystal Palace.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed: “I think it was a misunderstanding, for the fact that Gylfi didn’t start. For a free kick, we usually put two players [over it]. One was Lucas Digne, the other one was Richarlison. From the left side, usually we would shoot with the right foot – if Sigurdsson plays it could be Sigurdsson, or Richarlison. From the other side, it was Lucas Digne. When Sigurdsson came on the pitch I said to him, ‘If there is a penalty, take the penalty,’ because the penalty taker without Sigurdsson was Richarlison. But I didn’t tell Sigurdsson to take the free kick, and so when the free kick came, Richarlison took the free kick as it was on the strategy. It was a simple misunderstanding.”
