Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Victor Lindelof as the stand-out performer for Manchester United against Granada. Solskjaer told MUTV the performance wasn’t a vintage one from his side, but believes United’s defence did well to ensure ‘keeper David de Gea didn’t have much to save.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “When you go away to Spain in a quarter-final and you get two goals, that’s a very good result for us, and kept a clean sheet. David wasn’t really that troubled. Moments that could have been chances, but we defended well when we had to.”

He was then asked which player stood above the rest for United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer  said “Definitely Victor. He kept us glued together and he was good on the ball, to command. And what a pass for the first goal. A fantastic goal all round. We’ve seen Marcus do that before. He had one just before from a pass from Victor as well, in behind, and very happy with the way he took it. It’s a foundation to build a performance from. Today we didn’t hit the levels we’re used to, but we did enough to get a good result to take back.”

Manchester United weren’t at their free-flowing best but came through with a creditable 2-0 advantage from the away leg, with Solskjaer in praise of the Swede for his role shepherding the defence. Lindelof also played a magnificent long ball to create Marcus Rashford’s opening goal, before teaming up with Harry Maguire to keep the Spanish side at bay. United have now kept clean sheets in three successive Europa League away ties.
