First-team coach Kolo Toure was given a warm welcome when he stepped through the doors at Leicester City for the first time.  Answering what it was like to coach a player like Jamie Vardy, Toure revealed the welcome the striker gave him on his first day at the club.

Kolo Toure said “Jamie, Jamie, Jamie… Jamie is Jamie! He’s a nice guy – Mr Leicester, I’d say. He’s a man who loves football and wants his team to win matches. When he’s playing, it doesn’t matter what the score is – he’ll do everything to score and help his team to win.The first thing he did when I arrived here was sing the Kolo/Yaya song, and now he does that a lot. We dance together all the time!”

Toure also talked about what it’s like to work at Leicester, a club he calls ‘special’, and outlined the aims of the coaching.

Kolo Toure said “The story of this club is huge. Leicester won the Premier League in 2016 as an underdog, which was unthinkable. That sort of thing doesn’t happen to many teams. For us, we want to bring some stability; we want Leicester to always have consistency with results. I really enjoy working with all the people here: the players and the owners are great guys. This is a special club that’s done special things.”

The Ivorian joined Brendan Rodgers in swapping Celtic Park for the King Power Stadium just over two years ago, forming a key part of the Northern Irishman’s backroom staff at the club. Toure had a long playing career in the Premier League, starring for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. It was at the Etihad Stadium that he played alongside his brother, Yaya, prompting a well-known terrace chant to be invented. And it seems that the song still gets an airing in the Leicester City dressing room.
