Blackburn Rovers striker Alan Shearer was facing the prospect of another six to eight weeks out of action. Britain’s most expensive striker was rushed to a specialist in Cambridge for a second opinion on his injury that had seen him out of action since the new year’s day. It was feared that Shearer could have ligament damage and would require surgery.
That would not only rule him out for at least eight weeks of league action for Blackburn but also out of England’s world cup qualifiers against Turkey and Holland.
