Middlesborough’s transfer-listed goal ace Bernie Slaven was disciplined by manager Lennie Lawrence following comments made in a Sunday newspaper. The Republic of Ireland striker claimed in the report that he was “Insulted and embarrassed” having to train with the juniors and reserves while he awaited a transfer from Teeside.
Lennie Lawrence said “Slave is entitled to say what he likes to me in private but I don’t expect to see outbursts in newspapers. I am very disappointed.” Borough were considering allowing him a free transfer to clubs.
