Keith Gillespie’s dream debut for Manchester United may persuade Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson to blood more youngsters. The 18-year-old ended United’s anxiety against Bury as he created the first goal of the match and scored the second.
Alex Ferguson said “Keith had a good debut for us creating one goal and scoring the other. There are more like Keith in our youth team and we will be looking closely at them. We got what we wanted – a place in the fourth round at home and they (Bury) got what they needed.”
Bury were set to receive £100000 as receipts from the game which would enable them to pay off cash outstanding on a new £1.2 million Gigg Lane Stand.
