Dean Smith is hoping that Tyrone Mings could be in contention for Aston Villa’s new year fixtures. The centre-back hobbled off against Leicester City just 23 minutes into the recent heavy defeat to Leicester City, with the Foxes 1-0 up at the time of Mings’ withdrawal. It emerged that the England international had suffered a hamstring injury and wasn’t able to continue. He’s since missed the three league and cup games and was absent for the crunch meeting with Norwich City at Villa Park on Boxing Day. Smith is optimistic that Mings, who is set to return to the training pitch this week, could feature again soon.
