Recently, Pickford has garnered criticism for Brighton’s first goal in Saturday’s 4-2 win for Everton, with the goalkeeper dropping the ball before Neal Maupay drew the visitors level at the time. The England international also was criticised this season for mistakes in the League Cup win over Fleetwood Town last month.Tim Howard has reacted to Everton’s recruitment of a new goalkeeper and commented on the form of Jordan Pickford.
Tim Howard said “Every good goalkeeper needs competition. There’s been some rumours that they [Everton] are on the lookout for another goalkeeper in the window, but competition is good. Jordan is also a top goalkeeper. There have been a few wobbles in his game recently but no-one is exempt, at the highest level, from having a mistake or two. Jordan just needs to get back to basics and put a ten-game run together where there are no errors. But that happens at the highest level. Sure I think bringing in another goalkeeper always helps to create competition and urgency.”
Early on transfer deadline day, the Blues explored the possibility of bringing a new shot-stopper to the club before the window shut. Roma star Robin Olsen was secured on a season-long loan, with Everton understood to have also discussed Paulo Gazzaniga from Spurs and Manchester United’s Sergio Romero.
