Vitalii Mykolenko
Vitalii Mykolenko has committed his future to Everton by signing a new three-year contract, extending his stay at the club until 2029. The Ukrainian left-back’s previous deal was set to expire this summer, but the club opted to negotiate fresh terms rather than simply activating a one-year extension option. Mykolenko, who joined Everton from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2022, has been a key figure in the squad, amassing 143 Premier League appearances.
Vitalii Mykolenko said: “I feel excited to sign this new contract – very excited and proud. I remember the first message I received from Seamus [Coleman] when I signed in 2022. He gave me that confidence immediately that I’m in a proper family here. In the first few years of my time here we were struggling, but our team, as a family – every person in the building gave everything to get through it. What we have now is stronger and we are getting better every season.”
Mykolenko continued: “It’s been a good journey for me so far and now I think we are taking steps in the right direction to get higher and higher in the table. Next season, we want to finish much higher. I like to have realistic dreams… winning a trophy or maybe a European trophy, as some other teams have done in the past few years. Individually, just to play every single game, and be consistent as Jimmy [Garner] was this season.”
Mykolenko’s journey with Everton has been marked by resilience and growth. Since his arrival from Dynamo Kyiv for nearly £20 million, he has become a regular fixture in the team under various managers. His defensive capabilities have been crucial, although his offensive contributions have been limited, with only seven goal involvements over four-and-a-half years. The club may look to bolster their squad by adding a more attacking full-back to complement Mykolenko’s defensive strengths, thereby enhancing manager David Moyes’ tactical options.
The Ukrainian international’s commitment to Everton reflects his belief in the club’s potential for success. As the team aims to climb higher in the league standings, Mykolenko’s experience and aspirations for silverware will be vital in driving the club forward.
