Arsenal faced a crushing defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest, succumbing at the penalty shootout stage. Despite this setback, the Gunners celebrated a significant achievement by clinching the title, ending a 22-year wait. As club commitments conclude, attention turns to the international stage, with several Arsenal players joining the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel said: “Of course it’s painful for Ebs but of course I will take care of it, the group will take care of him and I think the extra week they had will help a lot. I’m very happy that they got the title in England. I think that took a lot of weight off their shoulders and they were aware they did what they could and they were very close in the final. I don’t think I will need to lift them. They’ve absolutely had a great season. At some point a winner has to be found.”
Thomas Tuchel further reflected: “I have lost some finals in a penalty shoot-out, and it’s the closest way to lose, and it hurts, of course, it hurts a lot to lose big finals, but a penalty means you did everything right, it couldn’t be closer.”
England began their World Cup warm-up campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over New Zealand in Tampa. Despite fielding two different line-ups, the absence of key Arsenal players such as Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke was notable. The official England social media channels confirmed the arrival of these Arsenal stars at the national team’s base in Florida, marking their readiness for the upcoming fixtures.
The Arsenal quartet is set to feature in England’s second and final warm-up match against Costa Rica on Wednesday night. This match is crucial for the players to impress ahead of England’s first group game against Croatia. The group stage will also see England face Ghana and Panama, with the fixtures scheduled for June 23 and June 27, respectively.
The transition from club to international duties is often challenging, especially after a taxing season. However, Tuchel’s confidence in his players’ resilience and their recent success in the domestic league suggests they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead. As the World Cup approaches, the focus will be on how these players integrate into the national setup and contribute to England’s quest for international glory.
