Brian Brobbey
Brian Brobbey, Sunderland’s top scorer for the season, has opened up about his experiences in the Premier League and his aspirations for the future. Despite his impressive performance, Brobbey believes he has more to contribute to the North East club. In a recent interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International, the 24-year-old striker discussed his adaptation to English football and his personal development since joining the Black Cats.
Brian Brobbey said: “It is very tough, the Premier League. You have to be switched on every game. Even away at Burnley or Wolves, you can never relax. Everything is fast. The intensity. English football suits me as well because there is a lot of speed and strength. But everyone is strong, so you also have to think. The biggest difference is that everything goes faster here, so you have to think better, also in your game. Not only holding off your man, but also running in behind, getting free.”
Brobbey has embraced the challenges of the Premier League, recognizing the need for constant mental and physical readiness. He has taken steps to enhance his performance by focusing on nutrition and reviewing his gameplay footage. This attention to detail has been pivotal in his development, and he aims to improve further by being more involved in the upcoming preseason.
Brian Brobbey continued: “I started working with people on nutrition, I watch all my own footage back with someone and I am much more conscious of details like sleeping, recovering, and other things to prevent injuries. I think there could have been more goals because I still had a few chances. But if you look at where I came from, I think I developed myself well in that area too. If I can be involved in the whole preseason next year, I hope to reach double figures [for goals]. That would be nice.”
Brobbey’s commitment to self-improvement is evident in his determination to reach double figures in goals next season. His journey in the Premier League has not only been about personal growth but also about experiencing the vibrant atmosphere at various stadiums across the country.
Brian Brobbey added: “I have been to all the Premier League stadiums this season and I genuinely think we have the best fans. The atmosphere is top, top, top. Before that last match against Chelsea, when they started singing it, we were all so hyped. Then after the game, when we had reached Europe, it was really beautiful. This is really a big club.”
Brobbey’s appreciation for Sunderland’s passionate fanbase highlights the strong connection between the team and its supporters. As he reflects on his first season, he remains optimistic about his future contributions to the club and the potential for further success.
