Chelsea Football Club has confirmed Xabi Alonso as their new manager, signing him to a four-year contract. Although Alonso will officially begin his role on July 1, the anticipation within the Chelsea dressing room is palpable. Players are eager to work under the former Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich midfielder, who brings a wealth of experience and success to Stamford Bridge.
Jorrel Hato said: “I think Chelsea made a good decision to get Xabi Alonso. I’m excited, I knew him as a player and watched him growing up at Liverpool and Real Madrid. He did very well at Leverkusen too, and they became champions, and he was at Madrid. He’s a big name, so I’m very excited. I’ve played in a back three and a back four, for me I don’t care about where I want to play. I just want to play.”
Chelsea’s recent 2-1 victory over Tottenham marked their first Premier League win in over two months, ending a seven-match winless streak. The win was crucial, as it left Tottenham in danger of relegation in the final round of fixtures. Hato referenced the challenging period the team has endured, including the loss of two managers and several games.
Jorrel Hato said: “We’ve gone through a difficult time, we lost two managers and a few games, before this it was two months I think since we won in the league. We’ve had a difficult time, and lost the final at the weekend, but today, and in some other games, we’ve shown that we can play good football and have a good mentality as well. Internally, we speak and we’ve said when it hasn’t been good enough, and sometimes we feel we gave enough but missed some finer details to win games.”
Hato delivered a standout performance against Tottenham, notably making a goal-saving challenge to prevent James Maddison from equalizing. The 20-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Ajax for £37 million last summer, has shown significant improvement and confidence since the beginning of the year.
Jorrel Hato admitted: “The first couple of months weren’t easy, it was a difficult time as a player. But in the last couple of months, I’ve felt more myself and I’m showing the quality I showed at Ajax. I think I’ve improved a lot and my confidence is growing now too.”
As Chelsea prepares for their final Premier League match against Sunderland, with European qualification still a possibility, Hato is expected to play a key role. The recent victory has boosted the team’s morale, and the appointment of Alonso is seen as a positive step towards future success.
