Chelsea’s interim head coach, Callum McFarlane, provided an optimistic update ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley. After a challenging period marked by injuries, the Blues are hopeful about the return of key players Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho, and Robert Sanchez. The trio’s potential comeback offers a significant boost to Chelsea, who have recently struggled with a depleted squad.
Callum McFarlane said: “Pedro Neto and Ale Garnacho have trained well this week. Looking hopeful for them.” He added, “Yep. Same news as the other lads, to be honest. He’s trained really well this week so we will see on Saturday.”
The injury crisis had left McFarlane without natural wingers for the recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool. Neto and Garnacho missed the match due to muscular-related issues, while Sanchez sustained a head injury against Nottingham Forest, necessitating on-pitch medical attention. Despite these setbacks, Chelsea’s medical team has worked diligently to prepare the players for the crucial FA Cup clash.
Callum McFarlane continued: “Again, a really good training week. He’s focused on getting himself back and playing for Chelsea. I’ve been happy with the whole group – players in the squad and players out the squad. The level of professionalism at times. I’m confident we will get a similar level of performance as we did vs Liverpool. We ticked a lot of boxes in that game. I’m confident we can get that again.”
As Chelsea gear up for the final, McFarlane expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to deliver a strong performance against Pep Guardiola’s City. The interim boss emphasized the positive atmosphere within the team and the players’ belief in their capability to secure victory. The FA Cup final represents a significant opportunity for Chelsea to end the season on a high note, adding silverware to their achievements.
Callum McFarlane warned: “They have the belief they can beat anyone. We know we need to be the best version of ourselves. We have some really good players and they have shown they can beat anyone if they are at their best.”
The FA Cup final is set to kick off at 3 pm on Saturday, May 16, at Wembley. Chelsea’s fans will be eager to see if the team can rise to the occasion and overcome Manchester City in this highly anticipated encounter.
