Andoni Iraola
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola expressed his admiration for Adam Smith’s performance during their recent Premier League match against Fulham. This comes after right-back Jimenez was excluded from the squad due to ongoing investigations related to social media posts. With Jimenez suspended, Smith was called upon to step up at Craven Cottage, and Iraola was quick to commend his efforts on the field.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think today you have to praise, from my side, Adam Smith. Probably he didn’t expect until yesterday to play, and then you have to play, you have to start, you have to cover [Samuel] Chukwueze, you have to cover Kevin, and he survived all the game. He was massive defensively. And from my side, the side that I would like to praise is how Adam Smith has reacted, especially him.”
Iraola also highlighted the collective spirit and determination of the Bournemouth squad, emphasizing their commitment to the team’s success.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think they are showing me now every day, this group of players, that they want it a lot. They are pushing a lot and everyone is fighting to be available. Today, Justin [Kluivert], I wanted to give him some minutes but how the game has gone has been difficult but he’s pushing. So I think we will have everyone available for the next one and I hope, we have two very difficult games, we can keep this mentality until the end.”
The manager was questioned about Jimenez’s potential return to the squad this season, but he remained uncertain about the timeline.
Andoni Iraola said: “I don’t know how much will it take, but we have to wait until the investigations clarify a little bit the situation.”
The situation with Jimenez remains under investigation, and Bournemouth has acknowledged the gravity of the matter. Meanwhile, the team is focused on maintaining their form and unity as they face upcoming challenges in the league. Smith’s unexpected yet commendable performance against Fulham serves as a testament to the depth and resilience within the squad, as they continue to strive for success despite off-field distractions.
