Simon Francis is set to leave AFC Bournemouth at the end of the season, marking the conclusion of a distinguished 15-year association with the club. The former captain and current Technical Director has decided to explore new opportunities, with interest reportedly coming from clubs such as Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Francis’s departure will end a significant era for Bournemouth, as he has been instrumental both on and off the pitch during the club’s rise in the 2010s.
Simon Francis said: “Bournemouth has been my home for so many years, and it’s incredibly difficult to say goodbye. I’ve been proud to represent this club both on and off the pitch, and I’m grateful to everyone I’ve worked with along the way. AFC Bournemouth will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I look forward to watching the continued success of the club going forwards.”
Bill Foley, AFC Bournemouth Chairman, said: “Simon’s contribution to AFC Bournemouth over the past 15 years has been extraordinary. From captaining the club during its historic rise to the Premier League to his impact as Technical Director, he has embodied the values and spirit of this football club. He has helped lay strong foundations for long-term success, and we wish him all the best as he takes the next step in his career.”
AFC Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, said: “Simon has been a vital part of our football operations, bringing professionalism, insight, and a deep understanding of the club’s identity. In his role as Technical Director, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen our football structure, playing a key role in recruitment and supporting the development of our squad.”
Francis’s departure signifies a pivotal moment for Bournemouth, as he has been a cornerstone of the club’s success. His tenure included 324 appearances before retiring in 2020, after which he transitioned to a key role in the club’s management. Despite his departure, Bournemouth remains confident in their ability to find a suitable replacement, emphasizing their proactive approach to personnel changes. The club is committed to maintaining its trajectory of success, building on the strong foundations laid by Francis and others.
