David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his desire to see more from young talent Tyler Dibling, who has had a challenging first season at the club. Despite showing potential, Dibling has struggled to secure regular playing time, featuring for just one minute in the last ten matches. Moyes remains optimistic about the player’s future, urging him to improve his performance and training.
David Moyes said: “It’s where he is. He’ll have to do better, I think. He’ll have to do better in his work and in his training. I think Tyrique has done well in the moments he’s had in games and shown some bits that we like, so we want Tyler to step up, we really do. He’s important to us. He’s a player who we put a lot of faith and money into to bring him here so we are looking for a lot more.”
Dibling joined Everton as part of a summer overhaul following the tenure of former owner Farhad Moshiri. Initially, his progress was hampered by the impressive form of fellow new arrivals Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, who helped the team to a strong start at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium. However, opportunities arose during the festive season when Ndiaye left for the Africa Cup of Nations and injuries affected key players like Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Despite being lively off the bench in a draw at Burnley and performing well in a crucial victory at Nottingham Forest, Dibling has not capitalized on the chance created by Grealish’s premature season-ending injury. Instead, he has found himself behind January loan signing Tyrique George, Dwight McNeil, and Ndiaye in the pecking order.
Moyes has been sympathetic to Dibling’s situation, acknowledging the player’s misfortune in being overshadowed by the strong performances of Ndiaye and Grealish early in the season. However, Moyes has also challenged Dibling to push harder for a place in the first team. The manager has relied heavily on a core group of senior players to maintain the club’s push for European competition, leaving limited opportunities for Dibling and other new signings.
Everton’s decision to potentially extend Grealish’s stay at the club could further impact Dibling’s chances of breaking into the first team. Talks with Manchester City regarding another loan deal are expected at the end of the season. Nevertheless, Moyes remains hopeful about Dibling’s future, emphasizing his age and potential for growth as reasons for optimism.
As Everton prepares to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Moyes reiterated his belief in Dibling’s potential, stating that the next year will be crucial for the young player to prove himself.
