Sunderland is actively preparing for the summer transfer window as they aim to enhance their squad with quality signings. Following a successful return to the Premier League, the club is keen to replicate the success of their previous transfer window, which saw impactful signings such as Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs, former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka, and Dutch international striker Brian Brobbey. These additions have played a significant role in Sunderland’s impressive performance in the top flight. As the club looks to solidify its position in the Premier League, the upcoming transfer window presents an opportunity to build on the strong foundations laid over the past year.
Regis Le Bris said: “We have a team of scouts, and they are watching different leagues with different backgrounds for the targets. So after that, they meet every two or three months to say: in this league, this target might fit this position. And Flo can challenge or support the idea. So last week, they had the second or the third meeting with the scouts and so they are moving forward. I repeat, I think we’ll be ready. But the market is the market, it’s still unpredictable.”
Florent Ghisolfi said: “For the summer, we will improve the team, of course, we’ll try but you never know. We’ll try but I think the stability will be the most important thing. The same idea as in the winter, I think will be very important. We want to build a sustainable club, this is the first thing. The second thing is, we don’t need to sell for that because of the Premier League revenues. Of course, we will sell, sometimes, some players. If they want to step up in a top club in the future of course we’ll have to do [it sometimes], but we don’t have the pressure for that.”
The Premier League has confirmed that the summer transfer window will officially open on Monday, June 15, shortly after the World Cup finals commence with Mexico’s game against South Africa. The window will close on Monday, August 31 at 7 pm. Sunderland’s strategic approach involves not only improving the team but also ensuring stability and sustainability. The club aims to maintain its Premier League status without the pressure to sell players, thanks to the league’s lucrative revenues. However, they acknowledge that player sales may occur if opportunities arise for players to join top clubs.
By focusing on a balanced approach to squad development, Sunderland is poised to continue its upward trajectory in the Premier League, building on the success of recent signings and the solid groundwork established over the past year.
