David Moyes
Thierno Barry, a £27m summer signing from Villarreal, has been struggling to secure a starting position at West Ham United under manager David Moyes. Despite Beto’s recent injury, which leaves him unavailable for the upcoming match against West Ham, Moyes has not assured Barry of a spot in the starting lineup. Barry’s recent form has been underwhelming, with only one goal in his last ten matches, prompting Moyes to challenge the forward to improve his performance.
David Moyes said: “He can score, can’t he? Score and play well, be a team player. If you do that, then we don’t ask for much more. We are asking him to do the best he possibly can. Nothing more. Hopefully, he can fulfil that for us. I’m not going to tell you Graeme Sharp is getting himself ready, so there you go you can write that.”
Moyes’ comments reflect his expectation that Barry steps up to fill the void left by Beto, who has been in excellent form, scoring four goals in his last three matches. The manager’s reluctance to commit to Barry as a starter highlights the competitive nature of the squad and the need for players to consistently prove their worth.
Additionally, Moyes addressed the potential of young talent Braiden Graham, who has been making waves in the club’s under-21s. Despite his impressive performances, Moyes believes Graham still needs time to develop before reaching the first-team level.
Moyes said: “I think he’s got a bit to go before he’s at our level. I am really pleased, and if he does that, he will get more noticed and probably get more chances of being seen in pre-season than he would do now.”
Barry’s challenge is clear: to seize the opportunity presented by Beto’s absence and prove his capabilities on the pitch. As West Ham prepares for their match, all eyes will be on Barry to see if he can rise to the occasion and secure his place in the starting eleven.
