Michael Keane Everton
In the wake of his near-departure to Crystal Palace, Michael Keane has emerged as a pivotal figure within Everton’s squad under the guidance of manager David Moyes. The 33-year-old defender has not only demonstrated resilience on the pitch but has also played a crucial role in fostering camaraderie within the dressing room. As Everton aims for European competition, Keane’s contributions have been instrumental, both in defense and in building team spirit.
Michael Keane said: “I think [this season] is up there [on a personal level]. I’m really pleased with that – I think more so for myself. I wanted to prove it to myself. Last summer, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I’m guessing people were doubting me and sometimes those doubts can creep in, but I’ve always had that belief in myself, and to prove that again this season, that I am good enough, that I can do it, has been really pleasing.”
Michael Keane told the ECHO: “To turn that around [is special] … for me to firstly do it for myself and show what I can do, but then to also get the support of the fans because of that, it has been amazing. It’s really given me a boost and it definitely makes you feel stronger, feel faster. When you’re on the pitch and you know you’ve got their support, it gives you that little edge and I’ve felt that all season. I would like to say a big thank you to them. I do also realise that I need to keep going. But, like I said, I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been in really good form and they’ve helped a lot, so thank you.”
Keane’s journey at Everton has been marked by highs and lows, yet his resurgence this season has been noteworthy. Having made 30 appearances, he has been a consistent performer in Everton’s backline, stepping up when injuries plagued the squad. His defensive prowess has been complemented by crucial goals against teams like Wolves, West Ham, and Fulham, underscoring his value to the team.
The defender’s influence extends beyond his on-field performances. He has been a supportive presence for teammates, notably Dwight McNeil, and has embraced activities like chess, introduced by Vitalii Mykolenko, to strengthen team bonds. Moyes’ decision to retain Keane, despite considering replacements, has proven wise as Keane’s leadership and experience continue to be assets for the club.
As Everton eyes a return to European competition, Keane remains optimistic about the club’s future. His commitment and belief in the team’s potential reflect his ambition to contribute to Everton’s success in the coming seasons.
