Francesco Calvo, a key figure at Aston Villa, recently addressed fans during a meeting to discuss the club’s future direction. The discussion centered on the impact of new Premier League financial rules, improvements in club operations, and maintaining the club’s authenticity despite foreign ownership.
Francesco Calvo said: “The new Premier League rules are pushing clubs to invest. If they want to spend more then they need to invest more because they need to develop their revenues. This is good because we have invested a lot and our ownership group want to keep investing.”
Calvo emphasized the importance of adhering to the new financial rules set by the Premier League, which require clubs to increase investments to enhance revenue streams. This approach aligns with Aston Villa’s strategy to continue investing heavily in the club’s development.
Francesco Calvo said: “We need to improve, like the app is not always working well. I am sometimes trying to buy tickets myself to see what doesn’t work, and on Thursday my phone was working but my laptop wasn’t working – so that shows the level of detail we are working in order to understand where we need to improve. Some ticketing systems do not work to the standard we are asking, and we are constantly asking our providers to make sure we improve.”
Calvo acknowledged the need for operational improvements, particularly in the club’s app and ticketing systems. He highlighted his personal involvement in identifying issues, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the fan experience.
Francesco Calvo said: “This year we have opened the Warehouse as a soft opening. We are still missing an emergency exit, so we are not fully operational and we want to do more events of some kinds. Using this venue for away games is in our plan, for Premier League games when we can show them and for European games. They want the club to be perfect, and driven by excellence and ambition – they want the club to be perfect. That’s what we are trying to do.”
The club’s plans for the Warehouse venue were also discussed, with Calvo outlining intentions to use it for various events, including screenings of Premier League and European games. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the club’s facilities and offerings.
Francesco Calvo said: “Despite foreign ownership and us being foreign, we are fully aware that we have to keep the club authentic to itself. It is Villa, the essence of English football. It is the founder of the English Football League. Our past is very important to us.”
Calvo reassured fans that despite the club’s foreign ownership, maintaining Aston Villa’s authenticity and honoring its rich history remains a priority. The club’s identity as a cornerstone of English football is a key aspect of its ongoing strategy.
Overall, the meeting highlighted Aston Villa’s commitment to strategic growth, operational improvements, and preserving the club’s heritage, ensuring that it remains a significant presence in English football.
