Morgan Gibbs White

Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White has become a focal point in discussions surrounding England’s World Cup squad selection. His recent hat-trick performance has placed him among the top English goalscorers in the Premier League this season. However, Gibbs-White was not included in the latest Three Lions squad for their March fixtures, leaving his World Cup hopes uncertain. Despite this, pundit Ally McCoist remains optimistic about the Forest midfielder’s chances.
Ally McCoist said: “No, not at all – for a number of reasons. His hat-trick was excellent, particularly goals two and three. The header was superb and the finish for number two, the volley at the back post, was excellent as well. And it was a good finish for the first one, so it was a brilliant hat-trick.”
McCoist added: “With Gibbs-White, no, I genuinely don’t think it is too late. I understand the clamour, not just from some of the Forest fans, for him to be in that squad. If I was going to be brutally honest, I don’t think he will be. But I can understand the case for him to be in it. The only thing he can do is what he’s doing right now, scoring goals, playing well and keep Forest in the top-flight.”
Former defender Jamie Carragher also shared his perspective on Gibbs-White’s situation.
Jamie Carragher said: “I’m a huge fan. I really like him and have said that for a few years now since he’s gone to Nottingham Forest. He wasn’t in the last 35-man squad. Anybody not in that, I think it’s going to be really difficult for them to be on the plane. But when I think of him and I think of certain players in that position, he’s got energy and he’s got pace. He’s not just good on the ball, and I really like that in a player between the lines.”
Gibbs-White’s hat-trick helped Nottingham Forest secure a crucial victory, moving them five points clear of the relegation zone. Forest head coach Vitor Pereira praised Gibbs-White’s leadership qualities and tactical understanding, suggesting he deserves a place in the England squad.
Vitor Pereira said: “He deserves that. This is just my opinion. He deserves it because he has the quality and he has the qualities of a leader. When things are not happening in the way we want, when the team is struggling in the game, a lot of players in this moment prefer to hide and don’t want the ball. This is not Morgan; he wants the ball and he wants the responsibility. He wants to score goals and assist.”
Gibbs-White’s ability to adapt to different roles on the pitch, as demonstrated in Forest’s recent match, highlights his versatility and potential value to the national team. As the World Cup approaches, the midfielder’s performances will be closely monitored by England manager Thomas Tuchel, who faces the challenge of finalizing his squad for the tournament.
