In a thrilling encounter at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest staged a remarkable comeback to secure a crucial victory against Burnley. Despite trailing at half-time due to Zian Flemming’s unexpected goal for Burnley, Forest managed to turn the game around, thanks to an inspiring half-time team talk from manager Vitor Pereira. Morgan Gibbs-White’s equalizer after the hour mark set the stage for Forest’s resurgence, leading to a decisive win.
Vitor Pereira said: “That’s why I prefer not to see the opponents in the battle. I prefer not to see it because I suffer with my team. I cannot suffer with the other teams. We don’t need to look because we are in a position that we can, we just depend on us. Go there and prove again your qualities. Prove again, forget the fatigue, forget everything.”
Vitor Pereira continued: “But in the end, the reality was difficult. The first half was difficult. It was difficult because we didn’t find the proper spaces. We didn’t create a chance to score and in the end of the first half, they scored a goal from nothing.”
Vitor Pereira added: “Half time, everything changed. Everything changed with the conversation. Trying to help them to find the spaces. Trying to look for different spaces and just saying to them: ‘even if we are losing 3-0, I believe that you and our supporters can do it. We are just losing 1-0 and we just need to score two goals and if we score two goals, we win the game’ and they scored four.”
Vitor Pereira concluded: “I’m very happy. Because the supporters deserve a lot and the players, the team, the club, this win was important. The next one is the most important, because it’s the next one that we have a chance to get points again.”
The victory was a testament to Nottingham Forest’s resilience and tactical adaptability under Pereira’s guidance. His motivational words at half-time not only lifted the spirits of the players but also strategically refocused their gameplay, allowing them to exploit Burnley’s weaknesses effectively. The win not only provided a significant boost to Forest’s league standing but also reinforced the belief within the squad that they can overcome challenging situations. As Pereira emphasized, the focus now shifts to maintaining momentum and securing further points in upcoming fixtures.
