Bournemouth continued their impressive unbeaten streak in the Premier League, securing a 2-1 victory against Newcastle at St James’ Park. Adrien Truffert’s late goal, following a well-executed team move, ensured Bournemouth’s 13th consecutive game without defeat. The win was celebrated by Truffert and teammate Marcus Tavernier, highlighting the team’s cohesive performance.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think we scored the 1-0 and also we had a couple of very clear chances, the Evanilson one and probably at halftime you are happy because you are doing well. But I knew it was not enough with one goal.”
Andoni Iraola continued: “Every ball in behind they are so fast, the last line, the three players, they put the striker and the two wingers that in every situation they can win those kinds of races. Probably I value more the reaction after the 1-1. We were talking they will react because they always do, and they will push and they will put us under some pressure.”
Andoni Iraola added: “We have to stay calm, accept some situations. And I think it has happened like this. I think second half, they were pressing us a lot more and we’ve had some situations there that we had to defend our box. But you have to accept when you play against teams like this in this stadium that there are moments where they will put you under pressure.”
The match saw Bournemouth taking the lead in the first half, with Iraola expressing satisfaction with their initial performance. However, he acknowledged the need for more than a single goal against a fast-paced Newcastle side. The hosts equalized, testing Bournemouth’s resilience, but Iraola praised his team’s reaction and ability to handle pressure, particularly in the second half when Newcastle intensified their attack.
Bournemouth’s ability to maintain composure under pressure and capitalize on late opportunities was key to their success. This victory not only extended their unbeaten run but also showcased their tactical adaptability and mental strength, essential traits as they continue their Premier League campaign.
