Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal is grappling with a series of injury concerns as they prepare for their Premier League encounter against Bournemouth. Following a challenging Champions League victory over Sporting CP, several key players are at risk of missing the upcoming match. Manager Mikel Arteta provided updates on the team’s fitness, highlighting both positive and uncertain aspects.
Mikel Arteta said: “He [Eberechi Eze] is available. He has [been ahead of schedule], my first conversation with him after he felt a niggle, he wanted to be available the next week, we knew that was impossible. But the recovery, the will that he’s shown from day one to get back as quick as possible, how he’s pushed the medical staff and himself to be there tomorrow, it’s just great to watch.”
Arteta confirmed that Eberechi Eze is fit to play against Bournemouth, having recovered ahead of schedule. Eze’s determination to return swiftly has been commendable, and his availability is a boost for the Gunners. However, Arteta was more reserved when discussing the fitness of other squad members, including Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber, and Piero Hincapie. These players missed the recent training session, raising doubts about their participation in the upcoming fixture.
Mikel Arteta added: “Well he’s another one who is going to push every boundary. He’s out of the boot now. He’s doing a lot of exercises already. He reacted well to the surgery and he has no pain.”
The manager’s comments suggest that while some players are making progress in their recovery, their readiness for the match remains uncertain. Justin Kluivert, for instance, is recovering from knee surgery and is eager to return before the season concludes.
Andoni Iraola said: “Justin, I think, is doing a very good recovery. He is on the time margins that we expected. Everything is going fine. But he’s in a rush because he wants to play before the season ends. He also wants to keep his options for the World Cup alive.”
Iraola’s update on Kluivert highlights the player’s determination to regain fitness in time for potential World Cup selection. Despite the challenges, Arsenal is hopeful that key players will recover in time for the crucial match against Bournemouth.
In addition to these concerns, Arsenal will be without Cook for the upcoming fixture. However, Julio Soler has returned to training and is available for selection, alongside Tyler Adams, Ben Gannon-Doak, Alex Jimenez, and Junior Kroupi. Jimenez and Kroupi have recovered from minor injuries sustained during international duty, providing Arteta with more options as he finalizes his squad for the match.
