Leeds United
Joe Gelhardt, currently on loan at Hull City from Leeds United, has been enjoying a stellar season with the Tigers, notching up 13 goals and five assists. Despite his impressive form, Leeds United has no immediate plans to recall the 23-year-old striker, who was initially not part of manager Daniel Farke’s plans for the current season. Instead, Leeds opted for a loan back to Hull City, where Gelhardt had also spent the latter half of the previous season. The decision appears to have paid off, with Gelhardt showcasing his potential and making significant contributions to Hull’s campaign.
Joe Gelhardt said: “It’d be stupid to say no because I’ve played my best year of football here; it’s obviously more difficult than just making a decision, but yeah, pretty much. At the minute, yeah. I’m enjoying it that much, yeah, I love playing for this club. Nothing is certain in football, and things change, but we can only take it game by game. I think everyone knows how much I love it here. In football, you’re never certain, so many things can happen so quickly. As footballers, you’ve got to get used to the unknown, and I definitely am. Things happen quickly, and let’s see what happens.”
Joe Gelhardt further confirmed: “I haven’t spoken to anyone from Leeds since the start of the season. I don’t know if my agent has. He hasn’t told me if he has. I’m sure the clubs speak, I’m sure they have to, but yeah, not from my side, I think they’ve just let me focus on playing, which I don’t mind, to be fair. That’s my job, isn’t it, so that’s all I’m here to do. It has been the best season so far in my career, and I’ve found my best form, so it was the right decision, and I’m buzzing with that.”
Gelhardt’s future remains uncertain, with Hull City owner Acun Ilicali and sporting director Jared Dublin expressing interest in securing his services on a more permanent basis. However, due to current transfer restrictions, Hull City is unable to make any cash signings until after June 30. Leeds United’s decision on Gelhardt’s future will likely depend on their league status next season. Should Leeds remain in the Premier League, it seems probable that Gelhardt, whose contract with Leeds expires next summer, may not feature in their first-team plans.
Despite the uncertainty, Gelhardt’s focus remains on his current performance with Hull City, where he has found his best form. His contributions have been pivotal, especially since returning from a calf injury in January, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 13 league matches. As the season progresses, Gelhardt’s future will be a topic of interest, with both Hull City and Leeds United keenly observing his development.
