Chelsea’s managerial landscape has seen a significant shift, with Liam Rosenior taking the helm at Stamford Bridge. Despite a promising start, winning seven of his first ten games, Rosenior now faces mounting pressure following Chelsea’s exit from the UEFA Champions League and a drop to sixth place in the Premier League. The club’s decision to appoint Rosenior as a successor to Enzo Maresca has sparked discussions about his capability to lead the Blues back to glory.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “Oh yeah! I think he’s good enough. I think he’s good enough. He knows his football, but, as I said, it’s a result-based game. Did the club think that Maresca was going to go when he did? I don’t think that they did, and I don’t think that they were set up for that. Were they ready for that? I don’t think so, but here we are. They’ve given, very bravely, somebody like Liam the job. When you do that very bravely, you need to give him all the chances to succeed.”
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink continued: “You really need to give him all the chances to succeed and give him all the time. If things are going a little bad, or he has a bad spell, you need to give him time because everybody is going to get that. You need to take as much pressure away from him. I don’t know if that is possible, but internally, you need to really make him feel and know that he’s the man, and he’s going to go nowhere, so that he can do his job the right way. That’s the only way I think he will succeed. But I do think he has got the ability. He knows football. Tactically, he’s okay.”
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also mentioned: “I think they need to really make him understand that he’s the man and they’re going to give him as long as they can in the job. Obviously, you need results, but the players need to know he’s going to be there because when players know that he’s going to be changed, that body language and their way of being is just different. When they know, ‘This manager has got the power to do everything and put me on the bench’, players react differently. It’s just a fact. They have to really back him, verbally, going out, but also internally. I think they’re doing that. You cannot keep on changing managers, managers, managers. You cannot keep on doing that. I think if he can be there for years, we will have lots of success…”
Hasselbaink’s comments highlight the necessity for stability within Chelsea’s managerial ranks. The club has been known for its frequent managerial changes, which can disrupt team dynamics and performance. By backing Rosenior, Chelsea aims to foster a stable environment where players can thrive under consistent leadership. Rosenior’s plans to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window further indicate his long-term vision for the club. The support from club legends like Hasselbaink underscores the belief in Rosenior’s tactical acumen and potential to guide Chelsea to future success.
