Martin Zubimendi
Arsenal is grappling with a spate of injuries as several key players have been forced to withdraw from international duty. This situation poses a significant challenge for manager Mikel Arteta, who must navigate the upcoming fixtures without some of his top performers. The latest to join the list is Martin Zubimendi, who has been recalled from his international commitments due to health concerns.
Martin Zubimendi’s representative said: “To avoid any risk and to protect the player’s health, he has been removed from the squad. Arsenal FC’s medical staff have been informed of the situation.”
The extent of Zubimendi’s injury remains unclear, leaving his return date uncertain. Similarly, Piero Hincapie has been recalled from the Ecuador squad, with his injury details yet to be fully assessed.
Piero Hincapie’s spokesperson commented: “The defender has returned to the Gunners, but the extent of his injury is unclear as things stand.”
Leandro Trossard, who was set to play for Belgium, has also been sidelined due to a hip injury. The Belgian FA emphasized the importance of his rehabilitation under optimal conditions.
The Belgian FA stated: “This decision will allow him to continue their rehabilitation under optimal conditions.”
In addition, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have returned to Arsenal for medical assessments after being withdrawn from the England squad. Noni Madueke, another crucial player for the Gunners, was seen wearing a brace on his left leg, raising concerns about his fitness.
An FA statement confirmed: “Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment, having arrived on Friday along with nine other players.”
Eberechi Eze has been ruled out for approximately four to six weeks due to a calf issue, which could significantly impact Arsenal’s performance during a busy fixture period. William Saliba, suffering from ankle pain, has also been withdrawn from the French national team.
The French Football Federation announced: “William Saliba is unable to join the French national team’s training camp, which begins this Monday, March 23. The Arsenal centre-back is suffering from recurring pain in his left ankle, requiring treatment and a minimum rest period of ten days.”
Gabriel Magalhaes is another player on the injury list, missing Brazil’s friendlies due to knee pain. The Brazilian Football Federation has confirmed his withdrawal, but his return timeline is yet to be determined.
The Brazilian Football Federation stated: “Gabriel would miss his nation’s friendlies against France and Croatia owing to pain in his right knee.”
The Gunners face a challenging period with five matches scheduled within 15 days after the international break. This injury crisis necessitates strategic squad rotation to manage player fatigue and prevent further injuries. Arsenal’s medical team will be crucial in ensuring the swift recovery of these players to maintain the team’s competitive edge.
