Mateo Joseph
Mateo Joseph, currently on a season-long loan at Mallorca, has been making headlines with his performances and comments about his future. The 22-year-old striker, who left Leeds United last summer, has managed just one goal in 29 appearances for the La Liga side. Despite a challenging season, Joseph has expressed a desire to remain at the club beyond his loan period.
Daniel Farke said: “If this is more or less your wish, I as a manager won’t stand in the way and accept this because I just want players who want to be here who are buzzing that we can represent this club on Premier League level.”
Mateo Joseph said: “I would have preferred things to end differently. Maybe one day I’ll have the chance to tell my side of the story. This season, he (Farke) told me that he wasn’t counting on me. Then I saw that there were quotes (saying) he told me that I didn’t want to go to Germany, that he couldn’t force me. That wasn’t the case. He told me that it was fine if I didn’t go. The most important thing is to have a clear conscience, and I have a very clear conscience that I gave it my all, I worked hard and gave 100 per cent, and I got the most out of that situation. Now I’m eager to continue getting the most out of every situation from now on.”
Mateo Joseph added: “I’d like to continue being happy here. When you’re happy somewhere, why change? It doesn’t depend much on me because I have a contract with another club. We’ll see what the future holds for me. I’m grateful to the coaches I’ve had, also to my teammates, who from day one have made me feel like one of them, and to the sporting director, who has always shown confidence in me.”
Robbie Evans said: “We think very highly of Mateo. He has all those same characteristics of the right profile, skillset, and can play at any league in Europe, including in the Premier League.”
Joseph’s departure from Leeds was surrounded by controversy, as he refused to join the club’s pre-season camp in Germany, subsequently requesting a transfer. His relationship with Leeds manager Daniel Farke appeared strained, with differing accounts of their discussions about his future at the club. Despite these challenges, Joseph remains optimistic about his career, expressing gratitude towards his current team and staff at Mallorca.
While Joseph’s future remains uncertain, his comments suggest a willingness to explore opportunities that allow him to continue his football journey happily. His contract with Leeds United runs until 2028, leaving the door open for potential negotiations or a permanent move, should all parties agree. As the season progresses, Joseph’s performances and decisions will be closely monitored by both Leeds United and Mallorca.
