Tottenham Hotspur’s assistant coach, Bruno Saltor, stepped in to address the media following the team’s recent Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest. The interim head coach, Tudor, was unable to attend the post-match press conference due to a family bereavement, leaving Saltor to provide insights into the game and the current state of the team.
Bruno Saltor said: “It’s a personal family issue and obviously it’s a difficult moment for him. I’m just trying to support the best way we can.”
The match saw Nottingham Forest take the lead just before half-time, courtesy of Igor Jesus. Morgan Gibbs-White extended the visitors’ advantage on the hour mark, and Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the victory, securing three crucial points in their fight for Premier League survival. Saltor reflected on the impact of these events on his team.
Bruno Saltor said: “The players got affected by the rhythm of the game and we couldn’t find that rhythm to create more chances. The first half, the first 44 minutes I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game.”
Saltor, who previously held a similar coaching role during Graham Potter’s tenure at Chelsea, emphasized the importance of focusing on the finer details and maintaining consistency throughout the match.
Bruno Saltor added: “I think in the small details, I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. And again, I think any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we’re not able to capitalise on the opposition’s mistakes. And probably that affected the team.”
The assistant coach highlighted the dedication and effort of the players, despite the challenges they face.
Bruno Saltor said: “And that’s our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. And as you can see, the players, they care and they are 100 per cent trying their best. But at the moment, it’s not enough. The best way to do it is focusing every day on doing your best, trying to be the best version of yourself, trying to push through difficulties, focusing on every action, not focussing on the end goal.”
Saltor’s comments reflect a commitment to continuous improvement and resilience, crucial as Tottenham navigates a challenging period under Tudor’s interim leadership. The team will need to address key issues such as selection decisions, VAR controversies, and transfer dilemmas to regain form and stability in the league.
