Burnley is facing a challenging injury situation as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League clash against Bournemouth. Despite recent progress, Connor Roberts and Zeki Amdouni are still several weeks away from returning to the field. Roberts is recovering from an Achilles injury, while Amdouni is on the mend from a torn ACL. The club’s manager provided an update during a press conference, shedding light on the current status of these players and others in the squad.
Scott Parker said: “You see a photograph of them on social media these days and instantly people think they’re ready. These guys aren’t ready yet, they’re some weeks away. They’ve missed a lot of football. Neither Zeki Amdouni, left, or Connor Roberts have played a single minute of football this season.”
Scott Parker added: “Marcus has been training this week, Flemming as well has been training this week. While early on in the week they were on modified [schedules], they’ve trained the back end of the week. Now we’ll have to see where we’re going to from tomorrow to see if they’re fully up to speed to go into a full game where they’ve had some reduced training minutes on the grass. But we’ll make that decision closer to Saturday.”
Scott Parker continued: “Armando’s out training as well again, but only light training. But he’s on the right pathway. We’ll see where we are again at the weekend. Axel’s still not on the grass or has been on the grass but only one day, so I can’t see Axel being back until after the international break. Mikey’s back in training again now he’s probably had a full week with us training, so that’s been positive. He’s on the right journey now.”
In addition to Roberts and Amdouni, Burnley is also managing the fitness of several other players. Marcus and Flemming have resumed training this week, albeit initially on modified schedules. Their participation in the upcoming match will depend on their readiness as assessed closer to the game. Meanwhile, Jordan Beyer and Josh Cullen remain long-term absentees, with Axel Tuanzebe and Armando Broja making gradual progress in their recovery. Broja has returned to light training, while Tuanzebe is expected to be out until after the international break. Mikey, however, has had a full week of training, marking a positive step in his recovery journey.
The injury challenges highlight the need for Burnley to carefully manage player fitness and squad depth as they navigate the demands of the Premier League season. The team’s medical staff and coaching team will be closely monitoring the players’ progress to ensure a safe and effective return to competitive action.
