Everton
Everton’s young goalkeeper, George, has embarked on a significant step in his career by joining Southport on loan. The move, seen as a crucial development opportunity, allows him to gain valuable experience in senior football. At just 19, George has already made a name for himself in Everton’s youth setup, having been a standout performer in the Under-21s. His impressive record of clean sheets in Premier League 2 highlighted his potential, prompting the club to facilitate his transition to the National League North.
Jordan said: “I think it’s a non-negotiable as a goalkeeper. If you’ve got a bit of talent, if you’ve got that talent there as a keeper, you’ve got to go out on loan as quick as you can to the lower leagues. I did it and it put me in good stead. I can only use my experience but I feel like mine’s a perfect example.”
George explained: “It’s unbelievable to train with him, especially when you watch him when he plays for the first team and you see how good he is. But you see all the stuff you don’t see in games – and how much he helps you, too. I’m only 19, and he’s always there to improve you and help you as much as he can. He’ll always give the right advice, and I’ll always take it on board.”
Jordan said: “I couldn’t harp on any more for George to go out on loan. Whether it’s Conference North, North West Counties, whatever division, it doesn’t really matter a lot, when you go and play men’s football, you’ll learn your trade and George will do well. Next year he might go National League or even League Two, it’s about doing well, going there and enjoying it. You’ll soon man up a bit more. It’ll be a lot different to playing U21s or U18s football.”
George’s debut for Southport against Hereford United was a testament to his capabilities, earning him the man of the match title. His performance was pivotal in securing a 5-1 victory, showcasing his ability to handle the pressure of senior football. Although a brief recall to Everton was necessary due to a finger injury assessment for Mark Travers, George has since returned to Southport, ready to continue his development.
The loan move not only benefits George but also opens up opportunities for Douglass Lukjanciks, another promising goalkeeper from Everton’s academy. With George gaining senior experience, Lukjanciks can step up from the U18s to gain exposure at a higher level, continuing the club’s tradition of nurturing young talent.
This strategic move aligns with Everton’s commitment to player development, ensuring that their young prospects are well-prepared for the demands of professional football. As George continues to hone his skills at Southport, the experience gained will undoubtedly serve him well in his future endeavors with Everton.
