AFC Bournemouth’s development squad faced a challenging encounter against Brentford, with Enes Unal emerging as a standout performer. The match, which took place as part of the Professional Development League, saw Unal netting twice, showcasing his skill and determination. Despite his efforts, Bournemouth fell short, losing the match to Brentford.
Connell said: “A really good game which we knew it would be. We always have some really good contests against Brentford. In the first half we were pleased with how it went. We created chances but had to respect the opposition at certain times as well with their quality. We were pleased to go in with the lead but we knew the second half was going to be difficult. We had big, big chances to kill the game. When it went to 2-2, we had big chances to win the game but we didn’t take them. We made a poor decision and got punished.”
The development squad manager expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance in the first half, acknowledging the quality of the opposition. However, the second half proved to be challenging, with missed opportunities ultimately costing the team the match. Connell highlighted the importance of capitalizing on chances, a lesson that the squad will carry forward.
Connell added: “Enes trained with us yesterday in preparation for the game. As always when we’ve had Enes, his attitude has been excellent. He wanted to play and hopefully the 60 minutes will be beneficial to him. I’m sure he will take a lot of confidence from the two goals he scored. That’s what we are here for, to develop players and help our first-team players that maybe need some top-up minutes.”
Connell also praised Enes Unal for his commitment and performance. Having trained with the squad prior to the match, Unal’s positive attitude and eagerness to participate were evident. The manager expressed hope that the match experience and the two goals would boost Unal’s confidence, emphasizing the development squad’s role in nurturing talent and supporting first-team players.
Currently, AFC Bournemouth’s development squad holds the fourth position in the Professional Development League. The team aims to learn from this match and continue their progress in the competitionPlayerPerformance
