Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal is grappling with a series of injury setbacks as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures. The Gunners recently faced Mansfield in the FA Cup, where they secured a victory but at a cost. Key players such as Leandro Trossard, Riccardo Calafiori, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, and Mikel Merino are currently dealing with injuries, raising concerns over their availability in the coming weeks.
Mikel Arteta said: “Both of them [Trossard and Calafiori], they had little niggles. And I knew that this could be a possibility, especially in the conditions that we’re playing today. So we had to take them off.”
Mikel Arteta said: “He [Saliba] turned his ankle against Chelsea. He managed to finish the game somehow, but he was too sore to play today. No, it’s the other [ankle]. We thought the same after the game.”
Mikel Arteta said: “Well, I think the doctors were really happy the way it [Merino’s surgery] went. Yeah, now it starts. Obviously, it’s a long process. You’re talking about bone healing, so you need to be patient. You respect the timings, and I’m sure Mikel is going to do everything that he possibly can to speed up the process. We’re talking about months, whether it’s three, four or five, we don’t know.”
The recent match against Mansfield saw Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori both withdrawn due to minor injuries. Trossard was substituted in the 38th minute, while Calafiori felt his hamstring after a clearance, prompting their removal from the game. Arteta acknowledged the challenging conditions and the necessity of taking precautionary measures to avoid further complications.
Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s captain, has been sidelined due to a persistent knee issue, limiting his participation to just two games in the last five weeks. His absence was felt in the recent matches against Chelsea and Brentford. Meanwhile, William Saliba is dealing with an ankle problem that has kept him out of action against Brighton and Mansfield. However, there is optimism that he might return to the starting lineup in Germany next week.
Mikel Merino, who underwent surgery on a fractured foot earlier this year, is expected to be out until the latter stages of the season. Arteta expressed confidence in the medical team’s handling of Merino’s recovery, emphasizing the importance of patience in the healing process.
As Arsenal navigates these injury challenges, the team will need to rely on their squad depth and resilience. The Gunners aim to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League and other competitions, with the hope that their injured stars will make swift recoveries.
