Liam Rosenior
Chelsea manager Rosenior addressed the media at Cobham on Monday, offering crucial updates on the injury status of several key players ahead of their pivotal match against Aston Villa. The Blues are currently trailing in the race for Champions League qualification, making their upcoming fixture against Villa a must-win.
Rosenior said: “Cucu is looking good, hopefully we can get him back involved if not on Wednesday, then on Saturday.” He continued, “Close. I want to manage him in a different way, in terms of his rehab. Hopefully, he stays fit.”
Rosenior provided an optimistic update on Marc Cucurella, who sustained a muscle injury during Chelsea’s draw with Leeds United. The 27-year-old defender is expected to be back in action soon, potentially as early as Saturday. Additionally, Estevao Willian, who suffered a hamstring problem last month, remains under observation.
Rosenior said: “He took a knock, he was absolutely fine. He’s looking really good. He played 83 minutes. I took him and Enzo off because they were both on yellow cards. He’s absolutely fine to start the game on Wednesday.”
Cole Palmer, who experienced a minor knock during the recent clash against Arsenal, has been cleared to start against Villa. Rosenior emphasized Palmer’s readiness, highlighting his performance and fitness levels.
The manager also discussed the tactical challenges posed by Aston Villa, acknowledging their attacking prowess and clinical finishing. Rosenior stressed the importance of preparation and adapting Chelsea’s game plan to counter Villa’s strengths.
Rosenior added: “The reason Aston Villa score great goals is that they have great attacking players. We show individual clips to our players; they know the strengths and weaknesses of each individual they are up against.”
Rosenior expressed the need for Chelsea to capitalize on key moments within matches, a factor that has been lacking in recent performances. He reiterated his commitment to developing the team’s identity while achieving short-term success.
As Chelsea prepares for this crucial encounter, the focus remains on securing a victory to keep their Champions League hopes alive. With key players returning to fitness, Rosenior aims to guide his team through this challenging period with a blend of immediate results and long-term strategic planning.
