Erling Haaland
Barcelona is reportedly setting its sights on bolstering their attacking options with the potential signings of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Despite financial hurdles in recent years, the Catalan giants are optimistic about securing these high-profile players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Soler said: “Yes, we could sign players like Julian Alvarez or [Erling] Haaland. These signings pay for themselves in five years and Barca’s finances are ready for something like this. At the end of the day, Barca must be very careful about which signings it makes in terms of the wage bill. We have set ourselves a limit and we are not going to exceed it.”
Haaland, who joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for £51 million, has been a phenomenal success, scoring 153 goals in 184 appearances and winning five major trophies, including two Premier League titles. His contract with Manchester City extends until the summer of 2034, making any potential move a significant undertaking for Barcelona.
Julian Alvarez, formerly of Manchester City, spent two years at the club, scoring 42 goals in 94 matches before moving to Atletico Madrid in a £82 million deal in 2024. His future at Atletico is uncertain, with Barcelona emerging as frontrunners for his signature should he decide to leave. Arsenal and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the Argentine forward.
Gaston Edul said: “Several clubs want him. He has two clubs interested in him: Arsenal and Chelsea, who are already known to be interested, and Barcelona. Barca has always wanted Julian. Barca already wanted him when he was at Manchester City. They even spoke, but never made an offer, and this interest remains. Julian chose to live in Spain because he liked the country, and he’s keen on Barcelona to avoid returning to the cold of England, but Barcelona needs to be more concrete about what they’re hinting at.”
Barcelona’s interest in these players underscores their ambition to revitalize their squad despite financial constraints. The club’s strategic approach to player acquisitions, focusing on long-term financial sustainability, reflects their commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in European football. As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Barcelona to see if they can successfully navigate their financial challenges and secure these marquee signings.
