Nottingham Forest suffered a late setback against Premier League champions Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister’s goal in added time sealing a narrow defeat for the Reds. Despite dominating the first half and creating numerous opportunities, Forest’s inability to convert chances remains a pressing issue as they continue their battle against relegation. With 11 league games left, the team is focused on addressing their scoring woes to ensure survival in the top flight.
Vitor Pereira said: “We are creating. In the first half, we crossed a lot of balls into the box and tried to shoot a lot. We tried to get one-on-one situations. Every time, we were ready to attack and not allow them chances. We played very good football. The second half was not the same because it was impossible to have the same energy. Frustrated. Frustrated inside. Angry with football. First half, we played the way we did in Istanbul but we didn’t score. We created two good chances to score but we didn’t.”
Pereira added: “I’m very frustrated today and it is very difficult to go inside the dressing room. What can I say to them? They did everything to try to win. We wanted to win the game. In the end, it was not one point, it was zero.”
Forest’s performance against Liverpool was commendable, especially considering their recent 3-0 Europa League play-off victory over Fenerbahce. Pereira opted to retain the same starting XI from the Istanbul match, acknowledging the challenges of a quick turnaround. The team showed intent from the outset, but their efforts were undone by Mac Allister’s late strike, which was initially scrutinized by VAR for offside but ultimately allowed to stand. Pereira expressed his reservations about the decision, highlighting the fine margins that often decide football matches.
With Forest now just two points above the relegation zone, the pressure mounts to secure points in their remaining fixtures. The team’s inability to find the back of the net consistently is a concern that needs urgent attention. Pereira’s frustration is palpable, as he grapples with the challenge of motivating his players after such a disheartening loss. As the season progresses, Forest’s resolve and ability to convert chances will be crucial in their fight for Premier League survival.
