Everton vs Liverpool Derby
In a unique blend of sports and philanthropy, former professional footballers are set to swap their boots for boxing gloves in “A Night to Remember II,” an event aimed at raising vital funds for Merseyside charities. Scheduled for Friday, April 17, at the Titanic Hotel, this event coincides with the Merseyside derby weekend, promising an unforgettable evening of boxing and entertainment.
Stack said: “The drive to make a difference doesn’t end when the game does. The city will be bouncing during the Merseyside derby weekend, and I can’t wait to showcase 10 ex-professional footballers battling it out once again in the ring. We’ll have some of this country’s best-ever boxers in attendance, including Tony Bellew, the Smith Brothers, David Price and Natasha Jonas. Johnny Nelson will host a boxing Q&A and judge the bouts alongside Steve Bunce, with Ian Saint John refereeing. Plus, a football Q&A with our ambassador and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher alongside Everton legend Francis Jeffers. We’re raising money for Children’s Charity Merseyside and Autism – our goal is to raise in excess of £120,000 and get closer to our £500,000 target!”
David Price said: “Although I’m looking to see how the former footballers turned fighters fare in the ring, the most important thing is raising money for charity. It just makes it all the more special to be involved.”
Natasha Jonas added: “The most important thing from this is that so many people will benefit from it. Even for the athletes, purpose was a big word that was spoken about earlier and when you do make that turnover to retire, it is quite daunting, and it can have a negative effect on athletes. But here they have a purpose because they are going to be getting the ring, and they are ultimately going to be raising money for charity, which is huge.”
The event will feature high-profile bouts, including Lee Trundle facing Chris Iwelumo, Bradley Orr taking on Carl Ikeme, and an all-Scouse affair with Adam Hammill fighting former Tranmere Rovers captain Steven Jennings. The involvement of prominent figures such as Jamie Carragher, Natasha Jonas, David Price, and the Smith Brothers as ambassadors and trainers ensures top-tier guidance for the fighters as they prepare for three rounds of intense action.
Building on the success of their inaugural event, Pro Project Promotions aims to surpass the £127,500 raised last year and get as close to raising £500,000 as possible. The organisation recognises the challenges of post-retirement life, providing ex-pros with structure, goals, and a platform to give back. This initiative not only supports local charities but also offers former athletes a renewed sense of purpose, making a meaningful impact on the community.
