Liam Rosenior
Jorrel Hato marked the beginning of Liam Rosenior’s managerial tenure at Chelsea with a memorable performance, as the Blues secured a commanding 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round. This emphatic win not only highlighted Hato’s potential but also set the tone for Rosenior’s reign at Stamford Bridge.
Jorrel Hato said: “To be honest, I was a little bit surprised when it went in so that’s why I didn’t really celebrate too much! I think it was a good hit and I’m just so happy to score for this great club. The ball bounced and landed just in front of me, it was sat up nicely and thankfully it’s flown into the top corner. I enjoyed the game, it was a real cup tie and the role I played allowed me to get forward a lot, into pockets of space in and around the box. I enjoy being able to help offensively as well as defensively. Maresca wanted me to invert and join in attacks previously, and now the new manager has asked the same of me. It was also the biggest margin of victory recorded by any new Blues boss since Luiz Felipe Scolari’s 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth back in 2008. He added: “It was a really good win for us. I’m very happy to score my first goal for Chelsea and especially pleased for us to get the victory. We know cup games can be difficult so we’re very pleased to have got through to the next round with this win. We knew it would be a difficult game. We expected Charlton to be physical, to play a lot of long balls and for there to be a lot of duels all over the pitch. He demanded that intensity of us and it worked, winning 5-1 is very good.”
The young Dutchman, Hato, expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for Chelsea, emphasizing his surprise and joy at the achievement. His ability to adapt to the tactical demands of both former manager Enzo Maresca and current boss Rosenior has been instrumental in his development. The 19-year-old’s performance against Charlton was a testament to his versatility, contributing both offensively and defensively.
Chelsea’s victory was the largest margin recorded by a new manager since Luiz Felipe Scolari’s 4-0 win over Portsmouth in 2008, underscoring the promising start to Rosenior’s tenure. The win not only secured Chelsea’s progression to the next round of the FA Cup but also demonstrated the team’s ability to handle the physical and tactical challenges posed by Charlton.
Looking ahead, Chelsea will shift their focus to the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. This fixture presents another opportunity for Rosenior and his squad to build on their recent success and continue their pursuit of silverware this season.
