Thomas Frank
Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Thomas Frank, is facing a challenging period since his move from Brentford, with only two wins in his last 12 Premier League matches. The club is currently sitting 14th in the table, following a disappointing 17th-place finish last season. Frank is adamant about not settling for mediocrity and is focused on building a successful team, despite the hurdles.
Thomas Frank said: “That’s impossible at Tottenham. We want to build something that can be very successful all the time. I’m very aware where we are at the moment. I think it’s fair to say that not many are.”
The Spurs manager is dealing with a significant injury list, including long-term absentees Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. While Solanke has returned to training after an ankle problem, Kulusevski is still recovering from patella surgery. Frank expressed hope for Kulusevski’s recovery, anticipating his return to the field in the coming weeks.
Frank admitted: “It was not going forward as quickly as we thought but it’s an injury we haven’t seen that much in football history. That’s why he got an injection and it hopefully will help. So in three to four weeks’ time, he’ll be on the grass pain-free.”
Tottenham is set to face Aston Villa in the FA Cup without several key players, including Mohammed Kudus, who is out until April with a quad injury, and potentially Destiny Udogie, although he has resumed training. The squad is further depleted with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Cristian Romero facing a suspension.
Frank stated: “We’re looking in every position. We also have a few away at the Africa Cup of Nations. I think, when you want to improve the squad, of course there are some positions that are maybe more obvious than others, but we are out there.”
Despite these challenges, Frank is optimistic about the FA Cup, viewing it as an opportunity to instill belief and success within the team, similar to the Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou last season.
Frank said: “I’m very, very aware that a cup run will be fantastic. The FA Cup is the biggest cup and most historic cup tournament, not only in the UK and England, but also in the world. So we will do everything we can to win that game tomorrow and then progress to the next round and to install belief.”
As Tottenham prepares for their clash against Aston Villa, Frank is committed to fielding a strong lineup, emphasizing the importance of taking each game as it comes and striving for victory in both the match and the tournament.
