David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes addressed the media regarding the club’s strategy for the January transfer window and the potential role of Harrison Armstrong in the upcoming fixtures. With Everton’s squad facing challenges, Moyes provided insights into the club’s approach to transfers and Armstrong’s development.
David Moyes said: “It’s more unlikely than likely that Everton will do business in the January transfer window. But I wouldn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up. If I say likely, you might think that means we’re on to something. We’re looking at some players, and we’re looking if we can add to the squad, and if we can, we will, but we’ll be quite careful with it.”
Moyes added: “Our ownership wants us to be clean and tidy with everything we do. Angus (Kinnear, CEO) put it in his programme notes that we wouldn’t be doing any quick fixes. So we’ll be looking, but if we don’t get anything, we’ll stick to the plan and keep building.”
On Harrison Armstrong, Moyes commented: “I thought Harrison looked like someone who’s been playing regular football. He looked as if he’s up to speed. I thought he came on and did fine. It might have been us having a bit more of the ball at that time of the game, with Brentford sitting off a little bit, but I’m pleased with how he did. He did really well. I think he’s probably ready to start. He’s more ready to start games because of the amount he’s played at Preston with the games he’s had there and the good work they’ve done with him. Physically, he’s in a condition to play games – I’ve got no doubt about that.”
Moyes further explained: “We’re having regular discussions with them because they really like him and they want him back and in those discussions, I’m saying how we need him. If we get players back from injuries and AFCON, then that need might change but he made a great contribution on Sunday and he’ll have a great contribution in the future. So we’ll see how it goes in the next two weeks.”
David Moyes’ comments suggest that while Everton is open to making strategic additions to their squad, the club remains cautious about rushing into any quick fixes. The focus appears to be on long-term stability and growth rather than immediate solutions. Meanwhile, Harrison Armstrong’s progress is a positive note for the team. His performance in the recent match against Brentford, where he played a late cameo, impressed Moyes, indicating that Armstrong could soon be a regular starter. The ongoing discussions with Preston highlight Armstrong’s value to both clubs, and his development will be closely monitored as Everton navigates the challenges of the season.
