Daniel Farke
Leeds United’s manager, Daniel Farke, has provided an update on Sean Longstaff’s anticipated return to action. Longstaff, a boyhood fan of Newcastle United, was initially expected to make his comeback against his former club. However, having missed the last seven Premier League matches, it seems unlikely that he will feature prominently against Eddie Howe’s side, unless a late cameo opportunity arises. Farke’s strategy has been to reintroduce Longstaff during the upcoming FA Cup fixture, where he plans to make several changes to his lineup. The recent absence of captain Ethan Ampadu necessitated Longstaff’s earlier than planned return to the squad, but with Ampadu and potentially Joe Rodon available for the Tyneside trip, Farke is cautious about risking Longstaff after his extended layoff.
Daniel Farke said: “Sean, if I am honest, my plan was to involve him for the first time in the FA Cup game because he was out for slightly more than six weeks. Normally with a player like this after such an injury you like at least a full week of training. But Sean is such an important player for us, not just on the pitch but off the pitch with his personality in the dressing room. Especially when other key players are out, it is important. At the moment we don’t have proper team training, but he has been involved and had an important session today. Let’s see who is available. Sean has a chance to be involved in the squad again. Definitely he will not play 90 minutes, definitely not in the starting line-up, but maybe a few minutes. We will see who is available.”
Farke’s comments highlight the significance of Longstaff’s presence both on and off the pitch, emphasizing his leadership qualities, especially in the absence of other key players. Despite the busy schedule, Leeds United is aiming to extend their impressive seven-match unbeaten run in the league. The manager also addressed the status of other squad members, including Jayden Bogle, who is recovering from a calf injury. Farke dismissed transfer rumors surrounding Bogle, affirming his importance to the team. Both Bogle and Joe Rodon are making progress in their recovery, with a possibility of featuring in upcoming matches, although it remains uncertain if they will be ready for the Newcastle clash.
Daniel Farke added: “We hope he recovers quick from his calf injury. Jayden and Joe Rodon did not train today, but both are making good progress and there is a possibility we could involve them against Newcastle. At the moment it is perhaps realistic they are not ready for this game, but the other side of the FA Cup, but we still have hope.”
Leeds United fans will be eager to see how Farke manages his squad during this demanding period, with the FA Cup providing an opportunity for rotation and recovery for key players. The return of senior players like Ampadu and Rodon will undoubtedly strengthen the squad as they navigate both league and cup competitions.
